Stages of learning

We are a team of lifeguards swimming instructors, holders of state diplomas, driven by a passion for teaching swimming to children and adults.

All year round and for 10 years we have been providing swimming lessons to children, both in municipal swimming pools and in swimming clubs.

The stages of learning to swim

Step 1: Getting familiar with the water

The first step in teaching children to swim is familiarization with the water. It is essential that children develop a fundamental confidence in the water. This stage typically involves having fun in the water, splashing, playing water games, and feeling comfortable in the aquatic environment.

Step 2: Buoyancy

Buoyancy is an essential skill to master before beginning to learn swimming strokes. Children learn to float on their backs and stomachs with the help of appropriate flotation devices. This helps them understand the feeling of floating and feel safe in the water.

Step 3: Basic movements

Once children are comfortable in the water and have gained some confidence in their ability to float, they begin to learn the basic swimming strokes. This includes skills such as leg kicks, arm movements, breathing, and coordinating their movements. Children can start with simple strokes like the front crawl or backstroke.

Step 4: Learning breathing techniques

Learning to breathe correctly while swimming is a crucial step. Children need to understand how to exhale underwater and inhale at the surface. This can be taught through breathing exercises and controlled submersion.

Step 5: Skills development

As children become more proficient in basic movements and breathing, they begin to refine their swimming skills. They learn more advanced techniques, work on their endurance, and develop their confidence in the water.

Step 6: Water safety

Water safety is an essential component of learning to swim. Children must understand safety rules, supervision in aquatic environments, and how to react in emergency situations.

Step 7: Learning the different swimming strokes

As children grow and gain experience, they can learn different swimming strokes, such as breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. Each stroke has its own specific techniques to master.

Step 8: Competitions and skill development

For those who wish to continue their swimming training, they can participate in competitions or seek to improve their skills to become proficient swimmers. However, it's important to remember that swimming should always remain a fun and rewarding activity.

In summary, learning to swim is a gradual process for children, starting with familiarization with the water and progressing to the acquisition of more advanced skills. Home swimming lessons are an excellent way to provide your children with a comfortable and safe learning environment. Remember that patience, perseverance, and encouragement are essential to help children develop their confidence and swimming abilities!
